Fiji Crested Iguana (Brachylophus vitiensis)



A special feature is the only in 1979 discovered Fiji crested iguana is endemic to Fiji. This very rare iguana species occurs only on some small islands of Fiji group. On Yadua Taba in the Yasawa at Monuriki and Monu in the Mamanucas and the northern coast of Viti Levu (Macuata Island). The Fiji crested iguana is protected (Critically Endangered under IUCN) and threatened by extinction.
