Description: Laysan-Albatros/Laysan albatross/Phoebastria immutabilis

Laysan Albatross over the ocean

Laysan Albatross is starting from Midway to a flight over the ocean, from which it will return only several years later for breeding. Albatrosses are flying artists and storm is their element. They feel extremely well with gales and towering waves. With their narrow and extremely long wings they sail over the ocean without a flap of wings in hours. There exist 14 albatross species worldwide, but only three of them are found on Midway Atoll. The largest breeding colony of the Laysan Albatrosses and the second largest of the Black-footed Albatrosses is located here.
